VICTORIA RECOMMENDS: For those of us who don’t have too much time to allocate to a wonderful safari to Africa, this is the perfect trip to take in the highlights of the Okavango Delta and Savute Marsh, it will give you countless opportunities to see some incredible wildlife that you would normally only see from wildlife documentaries. This itinerary is one that I have experienced firsthand and fully recommend as a brilliant way of seeing the key destinations of Botswana.

Day 1:
On arrival into Maun, you will be met and escorted on to your shared light aircraft flight to your first camp in the Okavango Delta – Camp Okavango.

Day 1 – 3:
Two nights will be spent at Camp Okavango. It is a great place to get over jet-lag, and enjoy the tranquil but beautiful scenery. The emphasis at this camp are the water-based activities which are conducted by experienced professional guides who will expertly weave you through the redlined waterways, in the comfort of a motorboat , or enjoy being poled through the quieter waterways of the Okavango Delta in the traditional mokoro (dugout canoe). For a closer encounter with the wildlife and bush, I suggest you opt for a guided bush walk on one of the nearby islands with your experienced guide.

For those wanting to get a little closer to nature, guided bush walks are conducted on a number of the nearby islands, Camp Okavango is also a perfect place to try your hand at some angling. Being a newly renovated camp, this camp will certainly give you a delightfully comfortable start to your safari.

Day 3:
Today you will literally walk to the Camp Okavango airstrip for your charter flight to the next camp, being Camp Moremi in the Moremi Reserve.

Day 3 – 5:
Two nights will be spent at Camp Moremi. Here you have the opportunity to really experience game drives in an area that is alive with wildlife and birdlife. This camp also offers exploratory boat cruises throughout the Xakanxa lagoon.

Day 5
Today you are hopping back on a charter plane but this time flying to Savute. After a short drive to camp, your will be welcomed to this oasis in the bush – Savute Safari Lodge.

Day 5 – 7:
Two nights will be spent at Savute Safari Lodge. Accommodation here is slightly different, being in thatched and timber chalets on raised platforms. Game drives are conducted in open pen 4 x 4 vehicles into the Savute area, taking in the famous Savute Marsh, a natural wetland and so providing a wonderful attraction for wildlife. For a bit of variation they offer visits to the ancient San Rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills in the area.

Day 7: Today you will be chartered from Savute Safari Lodge back to Maun airport in time for your onward regional flight.

There are countless destinations or safari ideas that can accompany this wonderful safari.
